The Forensic Genomics Innovation Hub recently attended the British Society for Allergy and Clinical Immunology Conference held in Harrogate. Our Senior Immunology Specialist, Lorraine Jessop, presented a poster at the conference demonstrating the capability of the new molecular ALEX 2 allergy test offered by our laboratory, when compared with the previous forerunner in allergy testing, the ISAC test.

The ALEX 2 allergy test has more molecular components and allergen extracts, making it particularly useful in complex allergy cases where there can be cross-sensitisation between the allergens, and therefore can provide more detailed information to the clinician. Thus, one might find they are not only allergic to an apple but also to a peach because some molecular components of allergens are found in more than one type of food.
